The Pontifical Mission Societies is a religious non-profit organization operating as an arm of the Vatican. With a global presence, TPMS plays a crucial role in supporting missionary activities, spreading faith, and providing humanitarian aid, positioning itself as a pivotal entity in the Catholic Church’s mission to foster faith and support communities in need.

Project Objectives

DevOps

Centralize IT assets and infrastructure to Azure, streamlining operations and improving efficiency through integrated workflows.

Data Migration

Migrate the legacy AS400 system and SQL databases to the cloud, ensuring minimal downtime and seamless integration with existing systems.

Security and Compliance

Ensure data integrity and compliance by adhering to industry standards and regulations, while maintaining legal and ethical obligations.

Serverless Approach

Decrease overhead costs and minimize support leveraging serverless architectures allowing client teams to focus on innovation.

Transition

Align on AWS and On-Premise assets to understand their associated infrastructure resources in Azure including potential downtime to minimize business impact.

Refinement

Implementation of the CCA Azure Migration accelerator to iterate through the data cleansing of the AS400 tables and SQL Server databases into Azure SQL.  

Modernization

Upgraded .NET applications, WordPress, and File Shares from AWS and VMs to App Services and Azure File Storage.  File shares were configured under VPN based on access groups.

Migration

Final migrations was done in phases based on business processes over a one-month period to mitigate risk and coordinate with various business groups and organizational goals.
